Philip Larkin is fanstastic. Here’s another one of my favorites.  Reminds me of my own boarding skool experiences.  If I were, you know, male, British and at school between the wars:

Heh.  One time, coming in 20 minutes late, I reached up to the clock and moved the minute hand back to 12, right before the Dean barreled her way towards us.  “Well, I guess you’re on time,” she huffed.  “Barely.”

Dear God, am I getting nostalgic?  Next I’ll be wandering around in a white dress singing “auld Lang Syne.”
