During the cold war, the US noted that France with all it’s “Liberty” and shit may not be a stalwart ally if things heated up. The solution was “Blue Fire”, a series of nukes places along the floor of the English channel, which would, when detonated, produce a massive tidal wave which would wipe out the damn frogs at least as far as Paris.
The unfortunate but inescapable side effect would be that England would also be flushed in such a tsunami. As the UK is considered to be AC1 (Aircraft Carrier 1) this would be not so good, so most NATO and US facilities were based around the Western coast (Holy Loch, e.g.) of Scotland, as these areas would be most likely to survive a deployment.
“Blue Fire” was officially placed on hold under W., but the hardware, activation methods, and infrastructure remain in place.
