11:15 PM | | He uses two spaces after every period. Which—for the record—is totally, completely, utterly, and inarguably wrong.
I’ve been telling everyone this for how long? Years I tell you, freaking motherloving years. And how people would bitch—“That’s what we were taught at typewriting school, so it must be right!”—nope, it was wrong, wrong, wrong.
But, and it’s a big but, it’s not completely wrong. When the fount you are using has proportional spacing (as in, each letter uses it’s own width, roughly speaking) you never, never, ever use two spaces. On the other hand, if the fount is monospaced (every letter takes up the same width) you can, if you must, use the double space. You’ll still be wrong, but you can get away with it.
If you want to get really nuts about it, you should use an m-space with proportional founts (an m-space being a space the width of an “m"), as opposed to an n-space, used between words (you can guess how wide an n-space is, right?)
Sorry, I think I just threw up in my pants a little.
