That is why you always but a strange nickname on your little tag/sticker for you ID. If they know you, they will call you by name. If they come up and say. “Hi Boatslop how are you doing today?” you know they are just reading tags trying to get your undivided attention.
Gag names on name tags are pretty obvious for the most part. I know it’s somewhat childish but if I’m at a con where I’m relatively anonymous or can otherwise get away with it I’ll take a shot at something. At a couple I attend it’s devolved into a bit of a competition to see what we can get people to buy.
Also I have it from a reliable source that not too long ago a fellow named Myke Hawke (actual name) was on Bizarre Foods on the Food Network. I’m further informed that this brought some notoriety to him. Said source has no ability to recall why Mr. Hawke was on the show though.
