Between 1875 and 1900 the forests of Wisconsin were clear cut to build Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, New Orleans, etc. Just after Michigan was logged off, and just before Minnesota got the ax. All of the wolf like creatures were nearly totally exterminated. The only creatures which fit this description were created in the mind of Whitley Strieber (a guy who is a bit out of touch with reality) in his book Wolfen.
Nu-uh. They cut the forests down during the day. Everybody knows that werewolves reside as human during the day, so when they were cutting down the forests, the werewolves were living in their suburban communities. No problem. And at night, they roamed the countryside, and when there was no countryside, they raced through back alleys and sewage tunnels. No problem.
