Obama is learning to throw the ball harder. But it’s not Rovian hardball he’s playing. More like Gandhian hardball.

Republicans have ignored the lessons of Gandhi for too long, discounting their effectiveness simply because it doesn’t fit some image of “macho” that the party seems to cling to.

Since Obama spent a great deal of time and effort to appease the Republicans for little result, maybe he should just turn around and say that he’s tried it, the other side won’t play, so fuck ‘em.

It doesn’t matter WHAT the Republicans think, it matters how it plays to the swing vote.

I’ve thought of that, but this is sort of dastardly.

Can you clarify what you mean by “this”?

Obama’s current modus operandi.

so fuck ‘em.

Ditto.

One thing I’d like to point out, though: Obama’s mortgage bailout plan is so devoid of common sense, such blatantly insulting to the ideas of responsibility and accountability, and so impossible to implement with any safeguard against rewarding corruption that I can’t imagine the dems having any strong congressional representation in 2010.

As opposed to rest of the other bailout plans?

\rhetorical

Frontline the other night on the market meltdown was very interesting.

Despite the valid problems noted by Spazmo, the mortgage bailout will produce some tangible results, however inequitable.

The current 700B+ stimulus package is akin to giving a blood transfusion to a patient without first attending to closing the wounds. The earlier Bush Paulson 700B TARP package was more like throwing a bucket a blood on the patient.

Touchè, mofo.

However, I will point out that the other bailouts rescued jobs. I’m not aware of mortgage bailouts preserving anyone’s livelihood.

I posted a link to the mortgage bailout. I’d like to hear more thoughts on this in the comments section there.

And I say “mofo” with utmost respect and love, of course.
