I feel sorry for Netflix. They became too successful. They are scaring the crap out of the Hollywood studios. The Netflix subscribers list is pulling people out of theaters at an amazing rate. They are also scaring the crap out of the major satellite and cable companies by offering lower prices than Pay Per View. Netflix is trying to survive despite pressure from the rest of the industry. I hope they find a way to survive.

Not to mention the ISP’s who are reporting that between 20% and 30% of the traffic on their networks is video (I forget if that was all services (YouTube, Hulu etc.) or just Netflix.

I too hope they survive: the streaming service is excellent, and the ability to pick up much anything on DVD adds a lot to the service. I actually wouldn’t mind if they did a Hulu type arrangement to get more recent shows (watch free with ads for a week after broadcast say)—that way the TV folks at least should be able to cope with it.

It’s clear that streaming is the future of video consumption (as I look at my collection of DVD’s with a heavy heart)—everyone just has to accept that and, where there are problems, resolve them.
