12:19 AM | | Though it feels more bittersweet than happy, somehow.

12:30 AM | | Yeah, it’s abhorrent to take any glee in the act of.. well, sorry I just can’t there.
Am I happy he’s dead? No. I’m not unhappy either. Fuck that’s a cop out. Grrrr…
But now maybe the question of when it is right and justified to exterminate the moral-compassy.
I never liked him.

12:51 AM | | Osama got what he deserved. He was evil and dangerous.
That said, I fervently hope the President’s personal security team are up to the challenge; I wish for their safety and his.

01:43 AM | | Yeah, it’s abhorrent to take any glee in the act of.. well, sorry I just can’t there.
No, no, go on!
It’s messed up. I suppose it’s a minor military victory, but the crowds of people in the streets celebrating the killing gives me the creeps.
|

08:56 AM | | Yeah, I’m not up for the crowds.
I think it might even be a major military victory, but Bin Laden, when he targeted the towers, created a definite lose-lose situation.
I don’t feel happy, exactly. I’m proud of Obama, I’m glad they got him, but mostly it’s just bringing back a lot of feelings from a time that I’d rather push away.

10:30 AM | | Coincidentally, I was just saying to Prissy the other day that Americans need to really market our national soccer team and get into the game more. I think we might stop treating wars like the World Cup and the military like a national football team. I think that’s what’s happening here more than even a celebration of death or whatever.

10:34 AM | | I hear you. I’m hearing a lot of people talking about this bringing closure, and I guess I just don’t know how that works with these things. It’s good that we know he’s no longer a behind-the-scenes actor.
|
Posted by flock 05/02
10:39 AM | | That was a response to Prissy. SpazTod, yeah, I agree, it’s not just a celebration of eye-for-an-eye retribution. Jingoism, maybe, but I’m not sure I know exactly if that’s right (nor do I know offhand zackly what that means).
My dog just farted. Audibly.

10:39 AM | | Here’s a piece (comments are good) about the age and mentality of the crowd cheering.

10:57 AM | | Thanks for that TNC atlantic page, spaz. I think I’ll refrain from the finger-wagging and accept the very human reaction to cheer and chant now.

12:24 PM | | I totally wish I could believe in closure, but I don’t. I also don’t think one should honor the memory of that day or those lost on it, from it, and in its name by becoming the kind of person who revels in the death of another. But that’s me.
I’m proud of Obama—not because Bin Laden is dead, but because our President made a hard decision to protect the country and seemed to understand the gravity and the issues at hand. I didn’t feel like that for a long time. Something that always felt very personal to me (however erroneous that is) and to people very close to me has been used by a long time to misdirect the nation’s focus, at immeasurable cost to this country (dollars, goodwill, lives...). That’s part of what I meant by hope and change when I pulled the Obama lever.

12:45 PM | | Look ma! We has Yobs!
It doesn’t strike me as the time to be climbing light poles and waving flags, but I guess I’ve never done either, so I don’t know what would be the right time. I didn’t watch for long, but were there any girls on boyfriends’ shoulders flashing for the cameras?
I appreciate your point about the soccer.

12:50 PM | | Buried at sea which will whip up the tinfoil crowd. Really the best solution though. Buried within 24hrs per Muslim faith. No land site to be either a mecca or target.
They have his DNA apparently and should release one photograph.
It is a feather in the cap of the CIA and the Seals to pull off this mission. After the horrific killings a month or so ago and the other mass killing of CIA personel in Afghanistan a while back this is very good news for these organisations.
The images of the sport championship like cheering at the Whitehouse fence made me cringe but hey they didnt hang him up in Times Square as a piñata. For me it’s a solemn nod of acknowledgement “done”. Let’s move on.

Yeah how long before Trump demands that he personally examine the remains or it didn’t happen.

01:19 PM | | Inneresting link, Spaz. Changed all real names ever so slightly in case my mother ever googles my first name and finds me somehow. That is ridiculous, isn’t it? Color me paranoid.
SpazTod and I were talking yesterday about Trump. We both agreed, he’s never struck either of us as evil. Possibly he is and we’re just not seeing it. I mean, it’s not like we’re old chums with the bastard. But I don’t actually think he’s a racist—i think he just stepped into a big racist pile of crap because he doesn’t have the wit (or finesse) to play the kinds of games that politicians regularly engage in. Watching the correspondents’ dinner, I almost felt sorry for him. Almost. But not.

It’s either highly fun satire, or how we really feel.

LP you may want to also redact the first Spazmo post (lawyers… attention to details… can’t be helped).

05:32 PM | | My thoughts probably won’t be very well accepted, but here they are.
I am happy the man is dead. He caused much harm to the people of the United States and many other countries. To the families of those killed and injured on September 11, 2001, I hope this brings closure. But I am still angry at what the aftermath has cost us.
Our government will not repeal the Patriot Act.
Our freedom of speech and expression will continue to be curtailed.
The hundreds of billions of dollars that have been spent to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will never be recouped. Because of this, funding for The Arts, The Sciences and Education (in general) will not be restored for many generations.
And we publicly did a political assassination. No trial, no charges, no court of law, no conviction.
