He has shown himself to be more a a man in two weeks than W did in 8 years. (I almost wonder if this was planned by some PR group.)
I stand behind the Man in the Office. I think Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh should be persecuted as terrorists for failing to stand behind our President, just as they called everybody who spoke against Bush an unpatriotic terrorist.
He didn’t screw up because Daschle had a tax issue (that, for the record, he cleared up without prompting upon discovery). He screwed up because he tapped a(nother) Republican doormat to be in his cabinet. Daschle makes Harry Reid look like Eugene Debs.
Obama (and his team) screwed up because Vetting 101 involves asking about tax problems. Daschle despite (or more accurately because of )his insider\quasi-lobbying baggage was viewed as someone who could get all the divergent stakeholders involved in Healthcare to come together to effect reform. U.S. Healthcare reform is now DOA for another administration.
He screwed up because he tapped a(nother) Republican doormat to be in his cabinet.
Oh but GB, you’re missing the genius of this. By annointing the doormat, he sticks him in a slot where he has relatively little power (when was the last time you heard of Bush’s commerce secretary, Carlos Gutierrez?). THEN he uses the democratic governor to appoint a democratic senator. What does he have? A balance of 60 dems to 40 reps in the Senate. Filibuster-proof.
It’s actually AWESOME that he’s doing this. It’s not an olive branch, it’s a Trojan horse.
