So, how are they going to replace these power stations?

Wind: doesn’t scale well, very difficult to build transfer systems, expensive.
Solar: requires massive collection stations, expensive, unreliable.
Wave / Hydro: Wave/tidal generators are in infancy, but could be operational in a decade or two, hydro is still best option (if you have rivers aplenty and don’t mind flooding out huge areas as you build dams.
Clean coal: contradiction in terms.

So the only viable options are more coal and oil based plants, which pollute, disseminate more radioactivity in a day than a nuclear reactor, cause multiple life-threatening diseases, and have high worker injury rates.

Or: import power from France, the most advanced nation in the world in clean energy: 90% provided by nuclear stations.

And so it began. Germany unilaterally decided to phase out nuclear power. The panic spread across Europe, then Asia, North America, and then the rest of the world. Lack of electricity blacked out the TVs and the Internet. Food got extremely rare and expensive. Water wars began in the Middle East and spread to Africa in a matter of weeks. California and Colorado each called on their respective national guard units to lay claim to mountain run off. The violence along the Mexican border of the early part of the century was minor compared to the food and water riots of the 30s.

The world entered the New Dark Age.

and all because we’re little scardy cats.

Given that with this past years carbon output, it would appear we’re fucked no matter what we do anyway. Cheery, huh?

Maybe the FBI will release Tesla’s Power Amplifier papers, and we’ll get unlimited free power for everyone! Nah, that’d piss off too many oil/coal/energy barons.
