In Minnesota you need to obtain a permit from the local Conservation Officer (Game Warden) before you can pick up any roadkill. I have seen several instances where people have been stuffed in a squad car for grabbing raccoons, geese or deer from the side of the road.

There’s such a high density of cars around there that most critters are far too mangled before I see them to consider this treatment.
