I don’t think there is a god, but belief in him does no harm.

If this were true, I’d be fine with it. But belief does tend towards extremism, prejudice, and in turn violence. Growing up in a country where two minor differences of opinion regarding god caused many deaths, mutilations, and horrors I never could quite get past this issue.
