Doesn’t this kinda fit into the “So what?” category? Using prop materials to represent foods has been common since the start of advertising: ice cream melts too fast under lights, so use mashed potato instead. Check out the difference between any frozen food product as shown on the packet and as it is in reality…

Sure, it’s a little awkward. I don’t read Veg News, although I did once get confused when the “e” in “Veg” got blotted out and I thought it was a magazine about news in the … well, you know.

But they didn’t use prop materials to represent food. That would’ve been understandable. They went the cheap route and used easily traceable istock photos featuring meat.

Photos, that, by the way, sell the very thing they’re trying to stand against. If I substituted mashed potatoes for cauliflower, nobody would care, unless I was railing against excessive consumption of Idaho reds.

Good points LP. I’m still of the opinion that it doesn’t matter much, but it is a good case of being cheap and stupid gets caught.
