I am going to step out on a limb here, and probably a lot of people will be willing to saw it off with me on it, but here goes. For the long term good of the American economy gas prices need to go up, drastically. Eliminate the tax breaks for big oil, and let them pass the price onto consumers. Throw and extra 25 cent/gallon tax on the stuff. Piss America off enough to start research and investment in alternative fuels and power generation. Force Americans to rethink their choices for vehicles, homes, locations, vacations, shopping and jobs. Sure you like your extreme luxury SUV, but guess what, you can get along without it. This country was built with Model Ts. Maybe we have just gotten to soft lately. Maybe if we get kicked down a few rungs on the ladder we will regain our desire.
