I’m fond of sweet potato/yam chips. I also recently had taro root chips which were really tasty. I’d be hard-pressed to choose a favorite from all the bagged offerings out there.

I like salt and vinegar chips, preferably thick cut.

Salt and vinegar are awesome. I still love dorritos, though.

Not a big fan of the doritos. Nacho chips don’t do it for me.

If we’re talking chips = fries, I like McDonalds hot out of the fryer not too much salt.

chips are french fries, crisps are chips, you don’t boil pizza…

I had these once, and they were excellent. I walk by them in the store all the time and nearly buy them. But I really have trained myself to not snack. Unless there’s free food in the office, and then I’ll scarf it down like I’m preparing for hibernation.

I rarely buy chips but when I do, it’s to binge on tostitos and queso dip. Given a choice between Sun or kettle, I’ll go with Sun though I like both.

I used to like sour cream and onion lay’s, but now I feel there’s something wrong with the whole oniony flavoring. Too chemical. The aftertaste is nasty. Funyuns and cool ranch doritos have it, too.

I’m hungry. Damned ascetic eating habits.

I like the ‘Cape Cod’ kettle chips best of those on the list. Costco often has some one time chips in fabulous flavors like : olive oil and rosemary, Mediterranean four cheese, sea-salt and black pepper, etc. Most of the time, they are like treats from heaven.

I’m kind of a chip connoisseur.  I like Cape Cod’s Salt and Vinegar for 3 reasons: good crunch, vinegar is from powdered vinegar - not some chemical, and they don’t add lactose.

Flavored chips are a minefield for the lactose intolerant (or vegans who are also avoiding lactose) as they sneak it it into flavors that have nothing to do with dairy and often - like salt and vinegar - aren’t even sweet.  I think this is because it helps the flavorings stick to the chips.

I also recommend Zapp’s a brand from Louisiana that you can sometimes find in gourmet stores - Wegman’s carries them in the sandwich shop part of their stores - but not in the chip aisle.  They make some fine spicy varieties including jalapeno, and Cajun Crawtators.

I’ve also tried Gibbles which are mentioned in the article - they are OK, but not that great - not cut thick enough in my opinion, and the flavor choices aren’t that exciting.  But PA is definately the mecca of the snackfood world - the first really good chips I ever had were called “Uncle Don’s” and came from the Pittsburgh area.  I think they are now defunct.

For a good value in good chips, try the Archer Farms kettle chips found at TARGET (I’m partial to the Buffalo Chicken Wing flavor); or if you find them - Krunchers brand.

They’re actually in the Albertson’s chip aisle round here. And I concur with the Duchess on the Kettle salt and vinegar, though they do abrade my tongue and hard palate if I have more than 5 or 6.

But have you checked these out?
