10:24 PM | | I tried going to one of the national ‘glasses in about an hour’ places once (the wife wanted her glasses from there). I gave them my script (from the ophthalmologist at my insurance covered clinic), I picked out frames, they fitted the frames, and they put a $495.99 hold on my bank card and then told me they did not have the blanks to grind my glasses in house, but if I returned in 24 hours my glasses would be ready’
24 hours later, they said, “Oh, sorry, we weren’t able to get your blanks yet. We will call you when your glasses are ready.”
Jump ahead 2 weeks, I walked in and asked when my glasses would be ready. They told me, “any day now.” I demanded they removed the hold from my bank account and went to Costco. Ordered nicer glasses, and looked forward to a 7-10 day delay. My glasses arrived in 5 days. They cost $119. I am on my 3rd pair of Costco glasses in 8 years (the newest ones cost $122 a year ago). I should mention my right eye is prescribed at 20/225 +175. A plastic lens would be over 3/4” thick. I might try a pair of online glasses just for the heck of it. Mrs. GS get her glasses at Costco nowadays.
