08:03 PM | | I use physics everyday, at work, on my commute, when shopping, and even when buttering my bread. Most of it is done without thought, like stepping on the brake pedal to make a smooth stop at the proper point, or how much force to apply to the butter knife. The simple stuff. At work, things like force vectors, acceleration, fluid dynamics, and shear force are a bit more complicated, but still in the realm of most introductory physics courses. But the stuff at the next couple of levels is where our nation needs as many students and professors as we possibly can find to deal with improving the efficiencies of out transportation systems, energy development, space exploration, and understanding our Universe. Engineers, chemists, architects, and everybody else in our high tech world needs a basic understanding of physics to design a better world, and we all need the top guys to explore new possibilities.
In other words, I think it is a dumb idea to eliminate any physics program.
