Too bad they used the photo for Vampire Weekend’s Contra cover without permission and are getting their pants sued off.

Creation Records (Jesus and Mary Chain, Oasis, Jazz Butcher, The Times, My Bloody Valentine, Biff Bang Pow!, Love Corporation, Sugar, many, many others)—aka “Probably The Finest Recording Company in the World” followed (originated?) a lot of these ideas: don’t buy artists who you don’t like/suck, work with the Artist, not against them and so forth. It worked like a charm.

At least it did, up until Sony made the owner (Alan McGee) an offer he couldn’t refuse. Hardly a year after the buyout McGee quit, took down the web-site, and it was game over.

For a quick run-down of most of what was Creations best work, check out “International Guardians of Rock and Roll 1983 - 1999"

Some you’ll hate, some you’ll love, few that will leave you feeling “So what?”—which sounds pretty good to me.
